What's with the Train"

You might be mystified by the Garrett Summer Sixties Music Fest train, radio, guitar, and purple haze night sky icon.

Back in the Sixties we got most of our music from the radio, that’s easy.

And those radio tunes were dominated by the guitar (the big band era having passed, and jazz never approached Rock and Roll in popularity).

The purple haze night sky suggests American blues music, re-discovered in England and repatriated per the British Music Invasion; and SHOUTS the Jimi Hendrix Experience (Purple Haze), which had enormous impact on music and pop culture.

But what’s with the train?

Garrett was basically founded when the B&O Railroad bought 604 acres and developed large switching and roundhouse operations (for locomotive repair and maintenance). Words alone cannot convey the railroad’s imprint on the town and its people... the wonder, awe, and mystery that enveloped Garrett youngsters growing up there "back in the day."


That said, this will be a regional festival, drawing from LaGrange, Steuben, Noble, Dekalb, Whitley, and Allen Counties, perhaps even beyond. And that's why we wanted to explain the train.
